The End of an Era

Sunday June 10 was the end of an era in LOGIC's history and the beginning of a new one with the official retirement of long-time BBS sysop Geoff Gaherty and assistant sysop Jim Low. As hard as it is to believe, these pictures demonstrate Geoff does exist and is not just an all-seeing and all-knowing virtual presence. Thanks for the last 15 years Geoff! And thank you as well Jim (but we know we're still going to be able to make fun of your broken cookies at the monthly SIG).

The dismantling of the BBS and transition to it's new home came off largely without a hitch, once the router tables had been updated--now if the DNS would just kick in. Here is our photographic chronicle of the event:

While the BBS went through it's final processes prior to shut down, our intrepid crew relaxed over a cup
of coffee in the back yard. From left, Geoff Gaherty, retiring sysop after 15 years of faithful service, incoming
sysop Derek Tsang, Louise Gaherty, club Secretary Christopher Douris, incoming assistant sysop Ross Wright
and hidden behind the tree branch in the elegant Tilley hat is outgoing assistant sysop Jim Low.

The BBS is dismantled prior to transport. Ross Wright, left, watches as Christopher, Geoff and Derek
unhook the BBS computer.

Everybody grabs a part of the BBS computer to make the move to Aurora

Jim Low, know for the broken cookies he serves up as host of our monthly New User Help and Hardware
SIG indulges in a little decadent living with a chocolate-covered donut.

The changing of the guard, from left, Christopher Douris, Derek Tsang, Geoff Gaherty and Jim Low

Mike Ciglic, co-owner of TRG Computer Solutions, was on hand to help us get our BBS set up in its new
home at the store.

Testing out the plug and play theory. This is a Mac guys, it's supposed to be easy! If so, then how come
the move didn't come off exactly as planned. Ross, Christopher and Derek try to look like they know what
they're doing. So far they managed to fool everyone.

Okay, so why didn't it work? Christopher, Derek and Ross troubleshoot the inital failure to communicate.
We're blaming Aurora Cable's router table refresh times for the initial lack of connection. The DNS problems
we're blaming on the Internet in general. (That's our story and we're sticking to it!!).

According to what it says here, it should be a go. Derek, Christopher, Mike and Ross confer about the possible
solutions to our failure to communicate.
